Our Story
About McColgan's
It all began in 1940 when WJ McColgan established McColgan’s tearoom.
The business had grown to include a butchers and bakery when the the next generation took over
The newly established McColgan’s Quality Foods became an approved EU Manufacturer
McColgan’s Quality Foods moved to its present site at Dublin Road Industrial Estate.
Only 6 years after the move to the new site, we needed to carry out an extension to double our production capacity.
We acquired the neighbouring site and buildings to facilitate an additional expansion
We received our Investor in People accreditation, the global benchmark for managing people. A fantastic honour that helped our business grow
Our state of the art distribution and chill facility opened as part of our extension plans
This is the year that we first gained our British Retail Consortium Accreditation (BRC)
With further developments, we expanded and opened a state of the art storage facility
Further works saw new despatch storage and factory development completed
As we were growing at a quicker rate, we invested into developing new modern staff facilities
Due to increasing demand we added an additional oven, 2 blast chills and 2 further packing lines, helping us to undertake new business
We further expanded our factory with 2 new offices above our production facilities
McColgan’s was bought out by the 3rd generation
We added a trade effluent plant. Our ‘Gourmet by McColgan’s’ brand officially launched in June 2023, with our Pork & Pancetta Sausage Rolls and Pork & Caramelised Red Onion Sausage Rolls
In March 2024, we won the Best Large Company Product Award at the Northern Ireland Food & Drink Awards for our Gourmet Pork & Pancetta Sausage Roll, less than a year after the launch of Gourmet by McColgan’s.
